I was very proud to receive the Inclusive Community Champion award for Excellence in Tourism, Entertainment or Recreation – Gold Coast yesterday.
The award was given in recognition to the contribution CanGoEverywhere.com.au is making to accessible tourism. Not only on the Gold Coast, but Australia wide. We already have a number of wheelchair accessible accommodation businesses listed on the website in the Gold Coast area, but of course we can always do with more. It’s about giving people options when they are considering where they will go for their holidays.
Spinal Injuries Australia
This award is an initiative of Spinal Injuries Australia.
The Gold Coast’s Inclusive Community Champions were honoured today for going above and beyond to make their community accessible to everyone.
Mayor Tom Tate hosted the ceremony, recognising the outstanding achievement of individuals and businesses across the region.
The Inclusive Community Champions Awards are an initiative of Spinal Injuries Australia, which has been advocating for equality since 1960.
An inclusive community is one in which everyone can participate and be a customer.
The Gold Coast regional ceremony was proudly supported by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
The awards began in 2010 to publicly acknowledge and showcase Queensland’s most inclusive communities.
Regional awards ceremonies will take place throughout the state during September and October.
Following the regional ceremonies, State Finalists will be recognised at a reception at Government House during Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week from 8 to 15 November.
The reception will be hosted by Governor of Queensland and Spinal Injuries Australia Patron, His Excellency Paul de Jersey AC, who will announce the 2015 State Champion.
